Meet Relationship Specialist, Channing Harris!

What's your professional background?

I first worked in a college setting in which I saw a diverse population. I then moved on to an outpatient clinic specializing in children and adolescents within a large nonprofit organization.

Most recently, I’ve been with a group practice that serves a wide range of clients, including adults, children, adolescents, and couples before joining the team at Ethredge Counseling Group!

What do you love about your work?

What I really love about my work is how people’s stories never cease to amaze me. Every person has such a unique journey and perspective, and it's fascinating to witness people’s ability to grow. I feel honored that I get to be involved in that process with my clients. Seeing them make progress and transform their lives in ways they have always desired but doubted was possible is what makes it all worth it for me.

What drew you to becoming a therapist?

The opportunity to provide others with a space where they feel truly heard. I believe every person deserves that but we don’t always get that in our everyday lives.

What’s your speciality?

I enjoy working with a wide range of clients and addressing various issues. However, I specialize in relational issues. I’m particularly interested in helping individuals and couples navigate relationship dynamics, improve communication, and resolve conflicts. My focus on relational issues allows me to provide tailored support for those looking to strengthen their connections and build healthier, more fulfilling relationships.

What’s your treatment style?

My treatment style is both systemic and holistic. I believe in looking at the bigger picture, which means understanding how various aspects of a person’s life and relationships impact their well-being. By taking a systemic approach, I consider the roles and dynamics within families or other important relationships.

Additionally, I use a holistic approach, which means I focus on the whole person—mind, body, and spirit—rather than just addressing individual symptoms. This way, we work together to create a more balanced and comprehensive path to healing.

Most likely to discuss during a treatment?

We will likely explore any current challenges or stressors you’re facing and how they’re affecting you. I’ll also be interested in your personal and family history to understand the broader context of your experiences. Additionally, we might talk about your goals and what you’d like to achieve through therapy. By looking at these aspects, we can work together to identify patterns and develop strategies for positive change.

What are your hobbies outside of work?

I enjoy being in the outdoors! More specifically, I love to surf and be out on the water in any way that I can.

What is your favorite self-care practice?

My number one self-care/ coping skill would be connection with those around me! Being in relationship with people I deeply care about and who deeply care about me. However, I also enjoy caring for my physical body so that I can create the space to be emotionally healthy.
